Just to warn those of you who keep reformating and installing; a trojan virus was going through the net last night. If you don't have a really good security styem; you better run a full system virus scan and tune up to check everything. This virus gathers information such as passwords, email address, infiltrates some windows programs and can cause loss of files and system dammage.
Some stupid idiot with nothing better to do on Halloween decided to crash or disable computers again.

Surely people would find something better to do with their time than sit there either diliberately or accidentally making computer programs wrongly and sending them round to random people! I mean even if they did make a virus by accident, I wouldn't send it round and muck everyone else's computers up.

Actually there is alot of incentive to do something like this, its big business now.

*Scoffs* I've heard enough hoaxes to think this one's just another one. Where'd you get the info?

I wouldn't be surprised if there's something out there. Last year, I tried going to a webpage once and this spyware doctor came up, but I knew to ignore it. Then a few weeks ago, my browser got highjacked, and downloaded a fake security software. It also changed my desktop. Whatever it was, my antivirus and anti spyware didn't pick up. It found stuff, but not the main problem. Now I'm reformatted, and I hope nothing comes up again.

If causing computers to crash because of someone's dumbass idea of big business in viruses is fun; then I hope someone else causes the virus maker computer to explode! This kind of thing causes more trouble and expense to people that don't or cant afford the money to buy a new system or take their computer to one of those expensive computer places.
As for a hoax? This isn't one as my comp[uter was attacked as well as about 30 other people that I know of throught the U.S. That's how I got the imformation and I thought it might be helpful to others on here to post about it in case someone comes across something like this or their computer suddenly does something weird and they don't know why.

Actually if you have all your data backed up and you can get a hold of some eyes for an hour or so if you can't see well your self, then formatting and reinstalling the OS is pretty damn easy. Though this is one of the biggest selling points for getting a mac computer. The OS installer is accessible by the blind, and well most of these viruses are written for windows so there is virtually none of this on the mac. So yeah you pay more up front, but if you aren't the most tech savy person it could end up being less expensive in the long run. Besides even Microsoft reccomends formatting and reinstalling the OS like once a year, so if you have a 2plus year old machine thats starting to run sluggish you could be a relatively quick fix away from getting it up and running again. Unfortunately when you have the market share that something like windows has though there are gonna be people out there trying to scam you out of as much money as possible, by placing an add on some website that pops up a phoney virus scan and tells you you have a ton of virus and download our tool to fix it .. little do most people know is that the "tool" is the actual virus. And once you have this "tool" then they try to upsell you to the preminum version that will remove everything, except they get your credit card info and give you software that most likely does nothing. Oh one other good and simple solution... run firefox with a plug in called no script. it blocks sites from running java script and lets you enable it on sites you trust.
